The Lancet publishes the Phase 2 trial of eloralintide in obesity
Phase IIP1Primary public evidencePeer-reviewed publication
On 6 November 2025 The Lancet published the 48-week Phase 2 trial of once-weekly eloralintide in 263 adults with obesity or overweight at 46 US centres. Using the efficacy estimand, mean weight change ranged from about -9% (1 mg) to -20% (9 mg) against -0.4% with placebo; nausea and fatigue rose with dose.

Background and context
Who was studied
The 263 participants had a mean age of 49.0 years, a mean body weight of 109.1 kg and a mean BMI of 39.1. Of these, 204 (78%) were female and 205 (78%) were White. All were recruited at centres in the United States, and none had type 2 diabetes.
Reading the results with that in mind
A trial with this mix of participants does not tell us how the same arms would perform in men, in other ethnic groups, in people with diabetes or outside the United States. The Phase 3 ENLIGHTEN program lists sites on several continents and includes a separate trial in people with type 2 diabetes, so those questions will be tested in later work.
Funding and authorship
The paper lists Eli Lilly as the funder. Seven of its ten authors give Lilly as their affiliation, and the other three are from outside research and clinical centres.
