Background and context
How the trial was run
The trial behind this announcement was double-blind, randomised and placebo-controlled. It enrolled 263 adults at 46 centres in the United States. Participants were aged 18 to 75, with a BMI of at least 30, or at least 27 with a weight-related condition, and without type 2 diabetes. They were assigned in a 2:1:1:1:2:1:2 ratio to placebo or one of six eloralintide arms, and the primary endpoint was percent change in body weight after 48 weeks.
What a Phase 2 result can and cannot show
A Phase 2 trial compares several arms in a few hundred people to decide what to test next. It does not predict what a larger and more varied Phase 3 population will show. ENLIGHTEN-1 plans to enrol 1,980 people at sites in many countries and measures its primary endpoint at week 64, not week 48.
